Weekend Recap vs Hearst/Kap

After a month of hard practices, the U15 AA Soo Greyhounds finally got their regular season going with a trio of home games vs Hearst/Kap Regional Express. In the opener Saturday Afternoon, the Express got an early lead in the first period and would have the lead for most of this contest. 

The Hounds would chip away at the one goal deficits on 3 occasions, coming back to tie the game at 3-3 early in the third. Halfway through the frame, The Hounds would score the game winner with Preston Miller firing home a shot from the high slot. Final score 4-3 Greyhounds.In the Saturday evening contest, the Greyhounds found themselves in penalty trouble early and Hearst took full advantage getting 2 PP goals and an early2-0 lead. The Hounds would answer back with a couple to tie the game at 2-2. The Greyhounds would press hard and get the lead in the second period only to find themselves tied at 3’s shortly after as the Expess would answer right back. Hearst would keep pressuring the Hounds and find themselves rewarded taking a 4-3 lead. 3 goals in a 5 minute span would break the game open for Hearst. The Hounds would try and mount a comeback with a couple of late tallies but would come up short in a 7-5 loss. Final score 7-5 Hearst.Sunday morning would see the 2 clubs play the rubber match of the 3 game weekend series. The Hounds would get off to a quick start getting off to a 2-0 lead early in the 1st period. Hearst would chip away and answer back making it a 2-1 game heading into the second. In the second, teams traded scoring chances at both ends and the Hearst would press to tie the game and then take a 3-2 lead towards the end of the period. Facing a 3-2 deficit, the Hounds would come out on a mission in a period where they took the play to Hearst and would find themselves rewarded for their play. After the Hounds hit 4 goal posts in the period, Logan Dearing tied the game up at 3’s at the midway mark and fired home the eventual game winner with 5 mins left. Hearst would try and press to tie it up but the Hounds would fend off the attack and hang on for the 4-3 victory. Final score 4-3 Greyhounds.
