It has been ten years since a team from Sault Ste Marie represented the city and NOHA at the Ontario Winter Games. At that time, the ’97 AAA Jr Hounds went 0-3 at the Games. This year’s Peewee Major AAA Soo Jr Greyhounds, who are all born in 2007, were 1 of 8 teams competing for gold in Men’s Hockey at the Orillia 2020 Ontario Winter Games this past weekend. It was a great experience for these 12-year-old boys who stayed in athletes’ village, took part of the opening ceremonies, played against the best teams in the country and made memories of a lifetime.

The PeeWee Major Soo Jr Greyhounds were selected by the NOHA to represent
Northern Ontario at the Ontario Winter Games next weekend. With the Jr Hounds
having a 21-1-2 record this year against the Northern Ontario teams in the
NOHLAAA Hockey league, the team solidified their spot in this prestige’s
Tournament. It is a tournament where the boys will be able to showcase their
skills on the big stage.

After another
successful regular season that came to an end last weekend, the first place PeeWee
Major AAA Soo Jr Greyhounds will start their playoffs this Saturday and Sunday against
the visiting Sudbury Jr Wolves. What the boys accomplished over the season is
now erased. It is a fresh start for all four teams to come out and fight to win
6 more games to earn the right to hoist the NOHA Championship Trophy and earn the
birth to the All Ontario Championships in April.
