The Soo U18 Greyhounds hit the road on Tuesday, January 18th for an eight hour bus ride to participate in the 2023 Steve Richey Memorial Tournament of Champions in Peterbourgh to join 33 other U18 AAA hockey programs over the Friday, January 19th to Sunday, January 22nd. The Soo U18 Greyhounds hit the ice on Thursday, January 19th ranked 12th overall U18 AAA program in the province of Ontario.

With a three and one record the Greyhounds headed home due to a loss in round robin to the Oakville Rangers. Greyhound forward Hudson Chitaroni led the Soo with five goals and one assist while Maverick Fletcher led between the pipes in Peterborough with two wins, one loss, and only four goals against in 135 minutes played for the Greyhounds.

Soo U18 Greyhound coach Jamie Henderson told Saultsports that “we’re really proud of the group they competed so hard and played with a lot of detail. Ultimately we didn’t advance despite only losing one game but that’s tournament play what’s more important is that the boys continued to show that they are progressing nicely both individually and as a team and there are a lot of OHL teams excited about this group of players.”

Next up for the Soo U18 Greyhounds will be over the Saturday, January 28th and 29th weekend in Sault Ste Marie when they host the Sudbury U16 Nickel Capitals at the John Rhodes Centre with a 1:00 p.m puck drop on Saturday followed by an 11:00 a.m start on Sunday.
