Coming off a 3 – 1 record in Peterborough, Ontario at the Steve Richey Tournament of Championships over the January 19th to January 22nd weekend, the Soo U18 Greyhounds returned to Great North U18 Hockey League action on Saturday, January 28th and Sunday, January 29th when they played host to the Sudbury U16 Nickel Capitals at the John Rhodes Centre.

Over the weekend, Candon O’Neill led the U18 Greyhounds at home with five points while Nathan Maguire and Maverick Fletcher shared the goaltending duties between the pipes with one game each with Maguire and Fletcher only allowing one goal each against the visiting Sudbury U16 Nickel Capitals.

Greyhound coach Jamie Henderson told Saultsports that “we were very disciplined this weekend and ultimately that was the biggest difference in both games our power play was outstanding. I thought we had a lot of great performances in both games. Chitter has taken his game to another level since early December. Candon today was awesome. Besides the points he battled and that’s his game his compete level is off the charts we have come to expect that by now.”

When asked about their matchup next weekend in Thessalon, Henderson added “we’re excited for next weekend. Brendan Cooke is a big part of our team and to play a game in his hometown in Thessalon will be special I’m sure for the family and for our entire team.”
