Jr. Hounds Take 2 of 3 vs. Sudbury
WEEKEND RECAP – U11 SOO JUNIOR GREYHOUNDS
(Paul Wierzbicki – Soo Jr. Greyhounds TV)
Our boys opened the regular season winning two of three against the visiting Sudbury Timberwolves. A great team effort backed by a stellar performance in goal by Ben Clayton and a third period offensive breakout in which the Hounds scored 5 goals helped pace them to an 8-0 win in Saturday’s Noon contest. Brett Rossetto with a Hat-Trick while Jayden Fisher-Ruck, Lukas Maninos, Gavyn Nevers, Tommy Ubaldi, Matti Lappalainen each chipped in a goal. Wyatt Jarrett and Gregory Beckerson both contributed 3 assists. Ben Clayton recorded the shutout victory.
In game two the Hounds walked away with a 14-5 victory. Jarrett and Maninos both recorded Hat-Tricks. Rossetto notched 2 goals and a helper while Fisher-Ruck, Ben Campbell, Ubaldi (along with 3 assists), Lappalainen, Jacob Mullin and Nevers each had a goal. Carter Rome was solid in net to get his first win of the season.
Game three saw the tide turn as the Timberwolves came out with an aggressive fore-check and solid game plan to take a 3-0 lead. The Hounds battled back with Jarrett scoring late in the second and Rossetto adding another in the third but it was too little too late as they dropped a 3-2 decision to the visitors suffering their first loss of the season.
There we some impressive performances by Hounds players over the 3 game weekend. Wyatt Jarrett (4G/4A), Brett Rossetto (6G/1A), Lukas Maninos (4G/1A), Tommy Ubaldi (2G/3A) and Gregory Beckerson (5A) led the way offensively while Ben Clayton picked up a shut-out in game one.
The Hounds now have three weeks of practice to prepare before hosting Nickel City for 3 games. Game one of that series will take place Saturday November 6th at the John Rhodes Rink 1, puck drop at 12 noon.
