From Oct 18-20, the U13AAA Greyhounds attended the Barrie
Pee Challenge, with a number of strong teams in the tournament from throughout
the Ontario hockey associations.
The Hounds started strong with two (2) wins on Friday,
upending the Ottawa Myers AAA and Credit River Capitals (Brampton). On
Saturday, the Hounds were looking to make it three in a row, but were beaten by
the Southern Tier Admirals 4-2 in a game where the Hounds took an early lead,
but could not keep the momentum going and found themselves down 4-1 before
trying to mount a late comeback.
Game 4 would prove to be a difficult one, as the Hounds were
playing a highly ranked Toronto Junior Red Wings team that would ultimately
lose to the host Barrie in OT in the finals. The Hounds were down 3-0, but
fought valiantly to get it to a 5-3 result before running out of time. This
left the Hounds short of the 6 team playoff, having missed out on goals for and
against.
In the consolation semifinals, the Hounds were victorious
against Sarnia Jr. Sting 2-0 and then in the consolation finals, the Hounds
were leading 1-0 for much of the first and second periods before having a power
play goal against them and then the game winner for the Niagara North
Stars, who scored an empty netter and kept the Hounds at 3-3 over the six (6)
game weekend.
Next up, the Hounds will be in North Bay to play the
Trappers Nov 2-3 for a three (3) game set.
