Detroit AAA Kickoff Classic
The U13AAA Soo Jr. Greyhounds (“Hounds”) attended a Detroit Showcase this past weekend.

In Game 1, the Hounds were faced off against the eventual showcase champions, being the 2012 AAA Nashville Jr. Predators. Unfortunately, the Hounds went down early in the first period 2-0 on two (2) power-play goals from Nashville. Thereafter, Nashville continued to build its lead and were victorious by a score of 6-0, handing the Hounds a loss in Game 1 of the Showcase.

The Hounds were able to beat the Sylvania North Stars in Game 2. The game was a tightly fought affair until the Hounds were able to pull away with a few goals in the 2nd period and a final goal in the 3rd period to make the score the final of 3-0.

In Game 3, the Hounds faced Fox Motors, a 2012 AAA team from Grand Rapids. The Hounds fell behind 2-0 but were able to mount a comeback to bring the score to 2-2 leading into the final minutes of the third period. The Hounds were pressing for the game winning goal, but could not ultimately get that third goal for the win. After three games, the Hounds were 1-1-1.

In Game 4, the Hounds faced off against the Sun County Panthers out of the Windsor outskirts. Sun County was undefeated up until that point of the Showcase, but the Ontario teams (Hounds/Sun County) were limited to a maximum of four (4) games as part of Ontario Hockey rules and regulations. This meant the game served as the title game between the two Ontario teams on the Canadian side of the bracket. The Hounds were able to finish the Showcase with a 2-1 victory in Game 4, thereby claiming the title for the Ontario/Canadian side of the bracket.
