2021-2022 NOHA U11 AA TOC Champions
WEEKEND RECAP
(Paul Wierzbicki – Soo Jr. Greyhounds TV)
This weekend the U11 Junior Greyhounds took part in the NOHA Tournament of Champions and did not disappoint, going 5-0 on their way to being crowned the 2022 NOHA Champions.
Game one saw our boys take on the North Bay Trappers for the first time this year and skate their way to a 6-3 victory. Jacob Wierzbicki, back from injury was awarded the hardest worker of the game award while Tommy Ubaldi’s fine play saw him take home game MVP.
Game two the Junior Hounds faced the hometown Timmins North-Stars. The Timmins team was well prepared and gave the hounds everything they could handle but the boys from the Soo came away with a 5-3 win. Carter Rome was awarded HWG and Brett Rossetto the MVP in this one.
Game three the hounds faced a familiar foe in the Nickel City Sons and secured an 8-1 win. Barrett McCabe was awarded the HWG for his solid play and Ben Clayton the game MVP.
Game four was another match-up against the North Bay Trappers with the winner securing their place in the final. The Junior Hounds were flying start to finish in this one and skated away with a convincing 8-0 win, sending them directly to Sunday’s championship final. Carter Rome with the shut-out victory in this game as well as game MVP. Matti Lappalainen with the HWG award.
The championship game saw the Hounds go up against North Bay for the third time this weekend. Both teams battled hard but in the end the Jr. Hounds played a very solid team game and did not let the trappers get many good looks. In the end the Hounds were victorious with a 3-0 win, clinching the championship! Jacob Mullin took home both the game MVP honors as well as the HWG bucket, and Ben Clayton was given a shut out award.
It has been an absolute pleasure watching these boys develop their game over the season. They have all worked so hard and were rewarded with the NOHA championship. Congratulations to the boys and to coach Cole Jarrett and his coaching/management staff. These boys are extremely lucky to have the leadership and direction that has been provided to them and we are all very grateful for the work that has been put into making this a season to remember.
