Jr Hounds Off to an Exciting Season
It has been an exciting and busy start to the hockey season for the U10 AA Soo Jr. Greyhounds. 

The tryouts for the team were conducted September 13th through to September 16th.  The team quickly started practicing that following weekend and it was great to see this new group of players and coaches develop into a team in the weeks that would follow.


The team started competition with exhibition games versus the SFMH U13B Soo Jr. Greyhounds in the first week of October.  The games were highly entertaining and great competition for these young nine year-olds, which resulted in 2 loses and tie.

The October 16th/17th weekend, the Jr Hounds played their first league games of the season when the Copper Cliff U10 AA team came to town.  The Jr Hounds came out skating and playing hard for all three games winning each by wide margins.

The next challenge for the Jr Hounds was the Barrie AAA Tournament, October 22nd-24th.  The team came out strong in their first game against the Oshawa Generals U10 AAA team, winning 10-0.  Game two of the tournament was against the highly skilled Barrie Colts U10 AAA team that resulted in an 8-0 lose.  Next, the Soo took on the Clarington Toros U10 AAA team.  In a game that was highly contested the whole way, the Jr Hounds ended up on the right side of 4-3 contest.  The fourth game of the tournament was a must win against another highly skilled team, the Markham Waxers U10 AAA, where the winning team would move on to the championship game.  The Soo boys opened up a 4-goal lead before the Waxers fought back with 3 goals in the third period.  However, in the end the Jr Hounds held on, winning 4-3, and in doing so advanced to the finals to take on the Barrie Jr Colts once again.  The Jr. Hounds played hard and gave it their all in the Championship Final.  The boys kept it close until the middle of the third period but ended up losing 6-2.  The coaching staff was extremely proud of how these young players competed against the AAA teams in tournament play and are looking forward to future tournaments.

The Jr. Hounds continue to work on their skills as they see the ice multiple times a week for practice.  The boys are back in game mode November 13th and 14th when they travel to Sudbury for league games against the Sudbury Timberwolves.
