What a weekend for the U11 AA (Jarrett) Junior Greyhounds in Sudbury Ontario. The boys officially outscored their opponents 37-4 over the weekend en route to the Nickel District Minor Hockey League Championship!
Game one was supposed to be a match against the North Bay Trappers who unfortunately had to forfeit the game due to a shortage of players. This resulted in the Hounds being credited with a 5-0 win. That said, an exhibition game against the Sudbury Timberwolves was scheduled and the Jr. Hounds were ready. They took the exhibition game 9-5 with Wyatt Jarrett being awarded HWG (hardest worker of the game). Brett Rossetto and Josh Jameus shared the game MVP award.
Game two was a rematch against the Timberwolves Saturday morning. A rivalry was starting to take place between these teams and both competed hard. The Hounds were able to secure a 4-1 win in this one and executed the game plan very well. Greg Beckerson with the HWG award and Carter Rome with the game MVP in this one.
In the third game the Hounds took on the Nickel City Sons. After a close 1st period the boys opened things up offensively and displayed excellent puck movement. A great team effort in the final two frames led to a 7-1 victory and the number 1 seed heading into the semi final game. Ben Campbell earned the HWG and Brett Rossetto was named game MVP.
The semi-final saw our Junior Hounds take on the Timmins North Stars, a team we had yet to see this year. Despite playing much of the game short handed the Hounds controlled play from start to finish and walked away with a 13-2 victory securing a finals birth Sunday afternoon. Carter Rome with the HWG award and Jayden Fisher-Ruck took home the game MVP.
In the finals the Jr. Hounds met up with the Sudbury Timberwolves for the 3rd time this weekend. The coaching staff laid out a game plan and the boys executed it, taking the championship with an 8-0 victory. The boys switched things up and gave the HWG award to Coach Cole Jarrett who wore the green bucket proudly. Ben Clayton recorded the big shutout victory and Mason Pagnotta was named game MVP.
The boys provided an exceptional and exciting weekend of hockey. The development over the season has been impressive to say the least and all the hard work and practices culminated in a championship weekend for these boys. Well done boys, we are proud of you all! Two more weekends of action are scheduled including March 19-20 in Sudbury for league games, and March 25-27 in Timmins for NOHA Tournament of Champions.
