Return to Hockey Plan: Players and Coaches
Submitted By Sault Major Hockey Association on Tue 09 01, 20
To our membership,

We hope that everyone is doing well and are staying safe in this very unique situation that we are all a part of.  We would like to thank everyone for their patience in waiting for the direction of hockey this coming season.

As we plan for the upcoming season, please understand that things are going to be different.  Our first priority at the Sault Major Hockey Association, is to make sure that all players and staff are allowed to participate in a safe environment, while following all local, provincial and federal regulations along with the proper return to play protocols that have been released by Hockey Canada, the Ontario Hockey Federation and the NOHA.

Although things are changing almost weekly, we do not anticipate regular full hockey programming for some time.  Hockey Canada will be reviewing their guidelines constantly and have stated they will be releasing updates every 4 weeks. After this initial session, we hope to be able to offer something in the new year as well.

Sault Major’s initial program offering is to run 12 weeks.

Start Date:  Sept 20th ::: End Date: Dec. 12th

Game Dates:  will commence the week of Oct. 4th.

In this ‘non-traditional’ hockey format there are no teams or carding for the time being. Again, there are NO teams and there is NO carding.  All of our teams that existed in Sault Major last year, do not exist to start this season.  We are allowed by Hockey Canada, the OHF and the NOHA to offer training and ice sessions in the forms of pods, keeping in mind that we need to be ready to fall back to the ‘traditional’ style of hockey and carding system when/if we are directed to do so.

Players that sign up will be placed in pods with regards to similar skill sets and age levels.  Depending on registration numbers, all groupings at all levels will be decided by coaches and administration.

Sault Major will be offering programs that will include pods and a “tiered” system as well as being able to offer a ‘non-traditional’ hockey games format in the form of 3 v 3 and possibly 4 v 4, following Hockey Canada return to play guidelines.
