A Letter to SMHA Parents from the Gary Roberts Team

Firstly, thank you to the Sault Major executive team for allowing us the opportunity to share, and to all of you who have taken the time to read this.

My name is Adrian Vilaca. I was born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie and my brothers and I grew up playing hockey in my parent’s backyard and every rink around the city. We were the typical Northern Ontario hockey family, and it helped shape who I am today. I was very fortunate a decade ago to move down to Toronto to begin learning alongside former NHL legend Gary Roberts. Over the past ten years, I’ve had the opportunity to coach and work with some of the very best players to ever lace up skates, including future Hall of Famers such as Steve Stamkos and Connor McDavid.

In light of the recent COVID crisis and global climate, we - the Gary Roberts team – have been brainstorming different ways to help our next generation of players and families through this difficult time. We know how much the game means and that being stuck inside, without sports, can be challenging for everyone.

These sessions have led to the creation of our brand new Gym-In-Your-Bag training kit to allow players to continue to develop off the ice while we wait for everything to come back online. As a former player in a Northern community, I would love for us to be able to help improve the next generation of hockey in a small way. In saying this, we would like to provide a special 15% discount to the Sault Ste. Marie hockey community on the GIYB training kit that releases this week. The details are below.
