The Hounds went on the road
again towards the end of January to participate in the Great Lakers Cup. The tournament was held in Stratford, Ontario
including many games at the Historic Allman Arena. The Hounds were hoping to
start this tournament with a win against the Waterloo Wolves but needed two (2)
late goals to come back and tie the game 3-3. In game two, the Hounds fell
short to the host team, Huron Perth Lakers 4-2.
This
left the Hounds with a tall task on Saturday morning in game three. The Hounds
faced their toughest competition of the tournament, being the Chatham, Kent
Cyclones. After Chatham Kent put up a four-goal lead, the Hounds were able to
score 3 goals in a row and pushed relentlessly for the equalizer late in the
third with many chances, to no avail. The Hounds entered the Saturday evening
game at 0-2-1. Despite the record, the Hounds were faced with a “win and get
in” game four against the Grey Bruce Highlanders, who also needed a win for the
quarter final rounds on Sunday morning. The Hounds were victorious 5 to 4 in a
hard-fought battle.
The
Hounds now had their sights set on the quarterfinals and were again faced
against the Chatham Kent Cyclones. The
game was an exciting hard-fought game that ended up tied, 2-2 after
regulation. 3 minutes into overtime, Chatham
Kent scored the heartbreaking winning goal, ending the Hounds tournament.
Chatham Kent went on to win the tournament.
