This past weekend, the
U12 AAA, Sault Jr Greyhounds (“Jr. Hounds”) attended the NOHL AAA showcase,
held at the Countryside Arena in Sudbury, Ontario.
Game 1 - The Jr. Hounds played the newly branded U12AAA Sudbury Jr. Wolves. Sudbury was leading 3-2 going into the third period. In the third period, the Jr. Hounds managed to score a couple of goals and a great team effort led to a 4-3 victory.
Game 2 - Saturday saw an early morning battle between the U12AAA North Bay Trappers and the Jr. Hounds. A tightly contested game with numerous shots on net for each side. The game was 1-0 for much of the first 2 periods before North Bay scored a second goal to put them ahead 2-0. 2-0 remained the score going into the final few minutes of the 3rd. Despite the two-goal deficit, the Jr. Hounds continued to push for a goal and potential comeback. The Jr. Hounds cut the score to 2-1 late in the 3rd and pulled the goalie to push hard for the equalizer. The Jr. Hounds battled to the final whistle including a few late chances with the net empty. The result was ultimately a 2-1 loss.
Game 3 - Saw the Jr. Hounds play Sudbury again in a prime-time Saturday night matchup with a substantial crowd. Sudbury was coming off a win against North Bay earlier in the day and looking for a split against the Jr. Hounds. Sudbury had the crowd roaring early when they jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but the Jr. Hounds displayed resiliency in climbing back to a 2-2 game before netting a shorthanded goal to take the lead 3-2. Sudbury tried valiantly at the end of the game to score the equalizer and pulled their goalie. Sudbury was unable to tie the game because the Jr. Hounds’ goalie made a few stops in the crease with less than 2 seconds left in the game, preserving the victory.
Game 4 - Sunday morning saw a rematch against the North Bay team. Both teams entered the match with identical records of two wins and a loss. The Jr. Hounds started this game off differently than the prior game, “flipping the script” by racing out to a 2-0 lead. North Bay then made it 2-1 on the power play. Almost immediately thereafter the Jr. Hounds popped in a further goal to make it 3 to 1. For good measure, the Jr. Hounds added one more and the game ended 4-1 in a fast-paced affair.
Your U12AAA Jr. Hounds will be back on the ice for regular season games the second weekend of October. Please check the team calendar for further details.
