Just prior to the Christmas break, the U12AAA Soo Jr.
Greyhounds (“Hounds”) travelled to South Bend, Indiana to play on the campus of
the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the prestigious division 1 school.
This was a showcase tournament with several teams from throughout Canada and
the USA. The Hounds played opponents from five (5) different US states.
In game one, the Hounds were victorious against the
Nashville Warriors (Tennessee), by a score of 5 to 4, coming from behind to
squeak out the victory. In their next game, the Hounds faced the Milwaukee
Junior Admirals from Wisconsin. The Hounds were victorious by a score of 6 to
4, having built a 4-1 lead and holding on for the 6-4 win. The Hounds continued
their winning ways in game three against the Windy City storm from Chicago,
Illinois, with a final score of 3-1.
The Hounds were looking good at 3 wins and no losses and attempting to win
their fourth game against the very tough and highly competitive Dallas Junior
Stars (Texas). Unfortunately, after building a 1-0 lead against Dallas, they
were unable to maintain the lead and ended up suffering a 4-1 loss. On Sunday
morning, the Sylvania North Stars, a AAA team from Ohio beat the hounds 5-1,
sending the Hounds back home to Canada with a 3-2 record.
