Showcase Weekend Recap
2011 Soo Jr. Greyhounds AAA

The season kicked off with the 2022 Northern Ontario Showcase held in Sudbury this weekend. Despite our boys outscoring their opponents 20-8 they finished with a 2-2 record.
Game 1 saw the Junior Greyhounds take a 6-1 win over the host Nickel City Sons. Lukas Maninos had 2 goals while Brett Rossetto contributed 3 assists. Josh Jameus, Mason Pagnotta, Matti Lappalainen and Jayden Fisher-Ruck each chipped in with a goal. Ben Clayton recorded the win in net.
Game 2 did not go the Hounds way. Despite outshooting the North Bay Trapper team 30-17 the boys tasted defeat in a 3-2 loss. Maninos and Lappalainen were the goal scorers in this one.
A few hours later the boys were back on the ice for game 3 against a rested and hungry Nickel City team. This game saw the boys battle back after finding themselves down 4-1 but it was too little too late as they dropped a 4-3 decision. Brett Rossetto, Maninos and Jakob Mullin provided the scoring.
After getting a good night’s rest our boys came out for game 4 ready to play and skated away with a 9-2 victory over the North Bay Trappers. Rossetto lead the way in this one with a 3 goal 4 assist performance. Maninos, Lappalainen and Gavin Nevers had 2 goals apiece while Kipton Fera rounded out the scoring. Carter Rome with the win in net.
All the boys played hard and contributed to the team and a few players had themselves an impressive weekend in the stats column. Brett Rossetto 4G/9A for 13Pts, Lukas Maninos with 6G/3A for 9Pts, Matti Lappalainen 4G/2A for 6Pts, Gavin Nevers 2G/3A for 5Pts and Jacob Wierzbicki with 5A from the backend. Ben Clayton and Carter Rome each recorded a win.
Next up the boys travel to Toronto to take part in the Marlboros Friendship Classic tournament this upcoming weekend.
