RE-CAP (MONTH OF FEBRUARY)
By Paul Wierzbicki

After a lengthy Covid-19 lockdown that did not allow our boys to practice or play games they finally took to the ice January 31st against the U12 AA Jr. Greyhounds. With no practice and obviously a little rust to work off our U11 team worked hard and fell just short losing 4-3.

Next up was a pair of games against the U10 Jr. Greyhound team. This would be the start of a current 8 game winning streak for the boys as they took this one 12-1. Brett Rossetto was awarded the Hardest Worker of the Game hat. In game two the U11’s were again victorious this time by a score of 9-0. Ben Clayton and Carter Rome shared the net for the shut-out. In Jayden’s absence Josh Jameus suited up for the U11 squad and his contribution led to Josh winning the Hardest Worker award in this one.

Our boys then hit the road for a 3 game weekend against the Nickel City Sons. Game one saw the Hounds really take it to the Sons and come away with an 11-1 win. Ben Clayton was solid in net and was awarded the HWG in this one. Game two saw the Nickel City team push back but the Hounds kept the pressure skating to a 6-3 win in the second match. Jayden Fisher-Ruck with the HWG award in game two. The third game saw the Hounds wake up hungry for another win. They controlled the game from start to finish to secure an 11-2 win Sunday Morning. Matti Lappalainen’s solid play earned him the HWG award in this contest.

From Sudbury the weekend we were back in the Soo for a pair against the U12 Jr. Greyhounds. Game one saw Lukas Maninos take the HWG award in a convincing 5-2 win for the U11’s. Game 2 saw more of the same as the U11 squad skated away with a 6-2 victory.  The most recent game, Feb 24th saw the U11’s go up against the U12 Greyhounds yet again. This time the U12 squad had their full roster back and competed hard. After going down 2-0 the U11s battled back and scored 5 unanswered goals to secure a 5-2 win in a very hard fought and physical contest. Tommy Ubaldi’s solid play earned him the HWG award in this one.

The U11’s will next head to Sudbury for the regional playoffs beginning March 4th.
