2016 Silver Stick Champions
The motto going into the Silverstick tournament this past weekend was "believe in our team and never stop working."
It was deja vu for our Phi Dental Care Jr Greyhounds after opening the tournament with a loss against the Gloucester Ranger's. The Ranger's eliminated the Jr Hounds in the Semi Finals in the Kitchener Octoberfest tournament in October by the same score of 4-1.
Our boys played hard but knew to advance in the tournament, we could not sustain another loss. They began to believe in eachother and committed to work every second of every shift for the rest of the tournament. They battled hard with their speed against Nickel City and Copper Cliff and finished the round robin 1-1-1 to advance into the Semi Finals.
They met up with a strong Ottawa Sting team but again our relentless attack on the puck and a lucky bounce helped solidify a birth into the Finals with a 3-0 win in the semi's.
The Finals were set and their opponents for Sunday's contest would be the Gloucester Rangers. The boys were relaxed and found that confidence as a team. They knew that if they play their game for every second of every shift so would everyone else and together they had a chance to win. As the final buzzer went, with the final score of 3-1, The Phi Dental Care Soo Jr Greyhounds became the 2016-2017 Atom Minor AA Sudbury Regional Silverstick Champions!
