When the 2007 AAA Soo
Jr Greyhounds were formed in the spring, the coaching staff made the decision
to put the boys in the elite AAA tournaments in order to gauge where the team
is at and to push them to be better. The coaches have always saw the potential
in them but until you play the best, you will never know. After this weekend,
the coaches are confident our team from a small Northern Ontario town can not
only compete with the best teams in North America but the boys can beat the best teams.
The Jr Hounds returned home from the Shanahan Tournament with a 1-2-1 record. The boys were noticed by teams for their skating and work ethic on the ice and no other teams they played could out work or out skate the ’07 Jr Hounds. The team just couldn’t get the timely bounces in their favour when they needed it the most. The boys played some of the top teams in North America and held their own. As a team, they learned a lot and will use those lessons when they compete again in Vaughan at the Vaughan Kings Classic in December.
The boys have the weekend off to recuperate and spend time remembering and learning of family members that served in the wars. Our program is not always about the game, it is about giving the boys the tools and experiences that will make them a better person in life. The team is participating in the March for a Veteran walk Nov 11 at 10:00am. Lest We Forget
